Congratulations on your selection for attendance as part of the National Defense University, Class of 2020. I welcome you and your family to NDU, the premier national security institution focused on advanced joint education, leader development and scholarship. NDU offers a unique academic environment to carry out the vital mission the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has given us: NDU develops joint warfighters and other national security leaders through rigorous academics, research and engagement to serve the common defense.

You were chosen because of your outstanding record of accomplishment, and your proven potential for future positions of leadership. NDU educates, develops, and inspires national security leaders through a comprehensive and collaborative academic experience to anticipate and confront national and global security challenges. Once here, you will be encouraged and taught to innovate, adapt, and think critically and imaginatively in order to anticipate and overcome future challenges to national security. Our commitment to this vision requires a combination of excellent faculty and subject matter experts, rigorous curricula and programs, and quality total health resources to make your time with us as beneficial and productive as possible.

Finally, I encourage you to visit this section of our website often, for important information to help you and your family make a smooth transition to Fort McNair and the Washington, D.C. area. Please pay particular attention to our registration requirements in the welcome letters and complete them as soon as possible. The NDU team and I look forward to your arrival and we are excited about the upcoming year. International Student Management Office

Dear International Fellow,

Congratulations on your appointment to attend the United States National Defense University (NDU). Your time at NDU will be both rewarding and challenging. You will participate alongside your American classmates in a rigorous year-long academic program at one of NDU’s four colleges on its main campus: Eisenhower School for National Resource Strategy, the National War College, the College of International Security Affairs or the College of Information and Cyberspace. Additionally, you will join more than 100 other senior officers from countries all over the world during your time here. The International Fellows Program (IFP) begins with your arrival in Washington and concludes with graduation summer 2020.

The main purpose of the NDU IFP is engagement of allied and friendly governments with the United States. Fellows are selected and sent to the United States for many reasons, academics being only one. You will live in the United States for eleven months and participate in many different activities during your stay. You will make life-long friends among the other Fellows, as well as with your American classmates.

The International Student Management Office (ISMO) will be your primary point of contact at the university to assist you with your arrival and settlement in the Washington, DC area. We look forward to your participation in the International Fellows Program during the coming year. My staff and I extend a warm welcome to you. We look forward to meeting you and sharing a wonderful learning experience.

Sincerely,
